(New Orleans, LA)--SilenceIsViolence, along with the Dinerral Shavers
Educational Fund, have announced plans for a Concert for Peace to take
place on January 11th, 2008--the one year anniversary of the historic
march to city hall. With performances by the Hot 8 Brass Band,
Shamarr Allen, Rebirth Brass Band, Free Agents Brass Band, Soul Rebels
Brass Band, and the Stooges Music Group, the event will kick off at
7pm at the Howlin' Wolf, 907 South Peters Street, New Orleans.
Tickets are $15, with all proceeds going to the Dinerral Shavers
Educational Fund, which awards scholarships in memory Dinerral
Shavers.

"My brother understood how important it was to show young people that
they have options and opportunities as they grow up," says Nakita
Shavers, his younger sister. "We want to make sure that his legacy
continues to provide opportunities to the young people of New
Orleans." Shavers was instrumental in assembling the first marching
band at Rabouin High School--and they will be on hand to perform in
his memory.

SilenceIsViolence formed following a march of 5000 citizens to city
hall to demand action in response to the growing epidemic of violent
crime in the city. The organization continues to work with city
officials, community organizations, and the youth of New Orleans to
address the issue. Over 200 people have lost their lives since
January 11th, 2007; SilenceIsViolence plans to once again acknowledge
these tragedies at a press conference on January 11th.

Ticket for the Concert for Peace can be purchased at the Howlin Wolf
box office, online at www.howlin-wolf.com ; or at Sound Cafe. For more
